Will it get worse or will it get better? Economic predictions are all over the board. One thing is for sure and that is, cost control is one of the essential components for long term survival. |
"The more bills you receive the more errors are occurring and the more money is being wasted."
Guess what we all do?
We get emotionally involved in the purchase selection process. Once we get hooked with feelings and start to rationalize why we need to acquire the product or service we cannot think and operate logically enough to make the most cost effective purchase, negotiate with power and find the best solution.
Several months ago I decided to lease a car since my old lease was expiring. After shopping at many dealers and getting totally exhausted my wife and I selected a great car.
The sales person was glad to help me and prepare the paper work. As I tried to negotiate my wife and I got more excited about the car as each delay increased our desire to take the car home.
The salesman going back to the manager for approval, the looking up of features on the computer, the long discussions about options available, just added to the tension.
After the decision was made the paper work process took almost 30 minutes and all we wanted to do was drive our new car.
Finally, mounds of paper work were put in front of us with print so small I could not easily read it. In fact, I figured it would take me two to three hours to try to comprehend what was before me and for complete comprehension with a computer for research, maybe a week.
Emotionally my wife and I were not set up for this type of a delay so we signed the paperwork and within another hour drove the car home.
As I was driving home I knew I had done a lousy job of negotiating and had not carefully understood all the paper work. I am a great cost reduction specialist and a very experienced auditor however with the Emotional Purchase Syndrome Effect I was in this case, no better than most of the general public.
The message here is; we cannot negotiate for ourselves as well as someone from the outside who has no emotional interest in the product or service.
Outsourcing cost reduction services is one of the best things a business can do to reduce costs. It not only reduces costs but will motivate the staff to think about saving money as the process spreads through the organization.
The Need for Technology:
We have worked with many businesses in the Michigan area and we keep hearing the same thing. We need to upgrade some aspect of our operations with new technology but we do not have a budget for the necessary products and/or services.
In almost all organizations there is enough waste that if the technology upgrade costs were put on some sort of a lease and or term payment plan the monthly savings uncovered would more than cover the monthly repayment amounts.
When organizations grow they expand their purchases and some costs just slip through the cracks.
Over 12 years we have had only two companies where the cost savings did not justify the energy invested in the cost reduction project. That is why we offer the contingent fee process where the ATI fees are based on validated savings after the savings are actually realized. There are no upfront costs.
By reviewing all expenditures it is possible to find cost savings in the strangest places.
Current and existing contracts can be gold mines for savings. Review and analysis have yielded millions of dollars in savings.
To efficiently reduce costs the procedure must use tools that consists of data bases, templates, process and systems.
Patience and perseverance are the essential elements for success.
